President's Report

FSCA President's Message October 2010

Greetings members and friends.  Let me begin by thanking everyone who participated in our Coast Day efforts this year.  Thank you to the folks who helped us prepare the chowder and crab cakes at the hotel.  Thank you to the people at the Hotel DuPont for providing the facility.  Thank you to John Sadler and Sadler Produce for loaning us a refrigerated truck.  Thank you to the wonderful people that showed up in the rain and helped to make our event successful.  We raised enough funds to provide scholarships for next year.   I would like to call special attention to the efforts of the Culinary Arts students at DTCC Terry Campus.  They showed up in great numbers and represented themselves, our chapter and their school with pride, enthusiasm and professionalism.  Well done!

Unfortunately our friends from the DelMarVa Chefs Association were not able to show up at Coast Day with their clam chowder.  That left us the winner by forfeit.  Please remember to congratulate the Culinary Club from DTCC Dover for winning the chapter chowder cookoff.

October's meeting will be hosted by Harry's Savoy Grill on Monday, October 25.  Chef Tom Macrina will speak to us about the American Academy of Chefs.  Chef Macrina is the National Chairperson of the AAC.  Several members of our chapter are fellows of the AAC including Scott Daniels, Ed Hennessy, David Banks and Winston Steijger.  The AAC recognizes chefs that have dedicated their lives and careers to advancing the name of all chefs and culinarians.  The AAC also works to offer educational scholarships to high school students, college students and professional chefs looking to further their education or become certified and student culinary teams currently competing at ACF Regional and National conferences.

We will be accepting suggestions for recognitions and awards to be presented at our Presidents' Ball in January.  Please forward any suggestions to any member of our board of directors.  Please make sure to join us for our annual holiday feeding this year.  Many local families depend on us to provide their holiday meals and we will not disappoint them!
